Paid ads basics
What paid ads and 'performance marketing' mean
Before any budget, targeting or clever tricks, let's get the big picture. Everything else in this course sits on top of this one simple idea.
So "performance marketing" is not about looking pretty. It is about counting. We put money in one end, we count what comes out the other end, and we keep changing the ad until more comes out than we put in.
- Paid ads = adverts we pay to show, mainly on Meta (Facebook/Instagram) and Google.
- Performance marketing = spending to get a measurable result, in real estate, usually a lead.
What a 'lead' is (and what it is worth)
The word "lead" is used all day in this job, so let's be exact about it. Getting this clear now makes the money maths later very easy.
Because one property sale in Dubai can be worth a large commission, a single good lead can be worth a lot even though most leads go nowhere. That is why businesses happily pay money for leads: they only need a small number to turn into buyers for the ad spend to pay off.
- A lead = someone who gave us their contact details after seeing an ad. It is not a sale yet.
- Most leads never buy. That is normal. A few buyers can pay for all the ad spend.
What a 'campaign' is
You will hear the word "campaign" constantly. It is simply how the advertising is organised, a little like folders on a computer.
As a VA you will often be asked to duplicate a campaign, pause one, rename ad sets, or upload new pictures and text. Knowing this three-level shape, campaign, ad set/group, ad, means you always know which level to click.
Here is the durable shape of a typical lead campaign; the exact buttons in Ads Manager move around over time, but this structure stays the same.
Read it top to bottom: the campaign sets the goal, the ad set decides who sees it and how much we spend, the ad is what people actually see, and every lead lands in the CRM so someone can call quickly.
- Campaign = one organised ad effort with a goal, budget and dates.
- Three levels: campaign → ad set (Meta) / ad group (Google) → the ad itself.
